Relay Ops Tool Redesign
A comprehensive redesign of a mobile-first task management app focused on boosting productivity and mental well-being.
Thrive Task is a mobile productivity app designed for creative professionals who need to balance task management with personal well-being. Despite a strong core concept, early feedback revealed that users found the interface too cluttered and the workflow overwhelming, especially during busy periods.
Discovery & Research
My work on the project began with user interviews and heuristic evaluations. I discovered that users were frustrated by an overload of options and inconsistent navigation. Many felt that the design didn’t adequately reflect the app’s promise of boosting both productivity and wellness. A review of analytics and user journey mapping highlighted key drop-off points during task creation and prioritization.
Design Strategy & Approach
I set out to simplify the user flow while retaining the app’s core functionalities. The first step was a complete information architecture overhaul—streamlining menus and consolidating overlapping features. I introduced a card-based interface that provided clear visual hierarchy, making tasks easier to scan and interact with.
A new, calming color palette and refined typography were selected to support the notion of mental well-being, ensuring that the experience was not only efficient but also visually soothing. I prototyped several iterations using high-fidelity wireframes in Figma, running usability tests to validate design decisions before finalizing the system.
Key Solutions
Simplified Navigation: Reduced the number of primary menu items and created a clear separation between work tasks and personal goals.
Intuitive Task Management: Introduced smart categorization and adaptive task prioritization that responded to user behavior patterns.
Mindful Interactions: Integrated subtle motion cues and microinteractions to guide users gently through the app’s workflow, helping them feel more in control.
Consistency Across Platforms: Developed a unified design system that could easily scale across mobile and desktop interfaces, reinforcing brand identity and reducing development overhead.
Collaboration & Handoff
Working closely with the development team, I conducted design reviews and provided detailed specifications to ensure the design’s integrity was maintained during implementation. Collaborative sessions helped fine-tune interactive elements and ensure that the app’s performance was not compromised by the new design.
Results
After launching the redesigned Thrive Task, the app saw a 35% increase in user engagement and a 25% uplift in task completion rates. User feedback highlighted the interface’s clarity and ease-of-use as major improvements. This project not only boosted conversion rates but also reinforced the app’s positioning as a tool that marries productivity with well-being.
This case study demonstrates how thoughtful design strategies and user-focused research can transform a cluttered tool into an experience that enhances both efficiency and quality of life.
